Dr. John Swengel

A member of the team to first successfully implant a pacemaker in a dog, Dr. John Swengel established Swengel Animal Hospital in 1983. A native of Indianapolis, Dr. Swengel previously practiced medicine as a clinician at Shelby Street Animal Clinic from 1971 to 1983.
Dr. Swengel attended Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. His professional interests include general surgery and internal medicine. Dr. Swengel is a member of a number of veterinary and professional organizations, including the Central Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (Past President), the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He also served previously as a board member of the Indiana State Board of Health and Controlled Substances Subcommittee and is a past member of the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
Dr. Swengel and his wife, Anne, have two children, Julie and Jenni. His hobbies include golf, skiing, reading and riding his motorcycle.
Dr. Anna Piper

Dr. Anna Piper has practiced medicine at Swengel Animal Hospital since she became a veterinarian in 1994. Dr. Piper attended Texas A&M University and earned two Bachelor's Degrees in Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine. Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Piper attended Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Her professional interests include behavior and training and geriatric medicine.
Dr. Piper is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the Central Indiana Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Piper is a strong believer in the human-animal bond and respects and understands the contributions and benefits pets can have in peoples' lives. Dr. Piper invests a personal interest in animal health, animal behavior, canine obedience and protection training into her everyday practices.
In her spare time, Dr. Piper can be found working in her garden or spending time outdoors with her husband, John and their dog Sulley, a Doberman Pinscher.
